Eva Hesse

“After her untimely death at the young age of thirty-four (1936—1970), Eva Hesse left 135 paintings, 176 sculptures, objects and test pieces as well as more than 700 sketches, drawings and collages behind as her legacy to posterity. These works have become the focus of increasing interest over the past three decades. Retrospective exhibitions in New Haven, Valencia and Paris in 1992 and 1993 and in San Francisco, Wiesbaden and London in 2002 and 2003 have provided fascinating insights into an oeuvre whose character is inseparably bound together with revolutionary artistic developments that took place in New York in the 1960s but which stubbornly resists all attempts at classification into such categories as Minimal Art, Post-Minimal Art or Anti-Form.”
