Blinky Palermo (1943—1977) would be celebrating his 75th birthday on 2 June of this year. On this occasion, Museum Wiesbaden will pay tribute to the artist's work with Hommage à Blinky, a cabinet exhibition presenting his minimalist prints from the 1960s and 1970s, complemented by a small selection of pictorial objects, including the so-called “Last Pictures.”

Palermo is considered one of the most important artistic figures in Germany in the late 1960s and 1970s. Internationally in demand, the young artist quickly developed a pioneering oeuvre, which can and must be seen as the starting point and inspiration of numerous artistic and theoretical discourses in the field of graphic art, visual objects and conceptual installations.

Blinky Palermo, born Peter Heisterkamp, studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, where he was a master student of Joseph Beuys. He is an artist of the Biennale and documenta. In simple terms, his abstract works are a combination of constructivist pictorial elements and color field painting. In between, however, there is imprecision, fraying edges and an incredible, surprising sense of humor.
