For the collection of Frank Brabant, the collector did not see a more suited place for its preservation than Museum Wiesbaden. One of the museums most popular works by Alexej von Jawlensky is from his collection: Helene im Spanischen Kostüm. What is the story behind the donation of Frank Brabants collection and, in particular, behind the work Helene im Spanischen Kostüm? How is the teddy bear related to this? And how do you become a collector? Is it a profession or a mission? Is there something like a „favourite piece“ as a collector? Question after question…
Our Curator of the department of Education, Astrid Lembcke-Thiel, met Frank Brabant and will ask all of these questions in a one-to-one conversation!
(German)
Frank Brabant was born in 1938 in Schwerin and moved to Wiesbaden in 1958. His collection, which he partly bequeathed to the Museum Wiesbaden and to the Staatliche Museum Schwerin, contains, aside from works by Alexej von Jawlensky, works by Max Beckmann, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Emil Nolde, August Macke and many more: „I therefore split the over 600 works in parts, so that they could be displayed in exhibitions“ – Frank Brabant
