Church Hall Museum Wiesbaden — Intervention with ceramic sculptures

12 May 20 — 31 Jan 21

The installation by Jan Thomas in the church hall consists of a multitude of ceramic sculptures made of black-fired, unglazed clay. The intervention refers in individual works directly to the wooden sculptures of the Middle Ages in the church hall. Chimeric bat-like creatures tie in with associative spaces of the night as well as with grotesques of the Middle Ages, whose purpose was to ward off evil. The figure of the socially highly developed and specialized bats in the multi-figured wall installation alternates between threatening bloodsuckers, figures of terror, saviours and extremely realistic species. Set pieces from different time levels. Everyday culture and science fiction provide the viewer with the opportunity to imagine new plots and chains of associations and to link them to their own reality.
