Carl Remigius Fresenius

23 Aug 18 — 20 Jan 19

Exhibition view in the Museum Wiesbaden

On the occasion of the 200th birthday of Carl Remigius Fresenius on 28 December 2018, the Natural History Collections have compiled a cabinet exhibition. Few chemists have made their way into popular consciousness as has Fresenius. His renown is due in no small part to his research on the analysis of chemistry and the establishment of the chemical laboratory in Wiesbaden. In cooperation with the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences, Museum Wiesbaden presents significant developments of his life and his most important achievements.

As a pupil of Justus Liebig, Fresenius became known for developing the fundamentals of qualitative chemical analysis. Thanks to his didactic talent, he was also able to educate numerous chemists who went on to found significant companies. He and his descendants were closely associated with the Nassau Society of Natural History and Museum Wiesbaden through their volunteer work. To this day, the name Fresenius is still known to the general public, particularly in connection with the analysis of water.
